Darren Stein

Darren was raised in a celluloid family with grandparents who started a Hollywood film laboratory in 1961. He started using his father’s video camera at age ten, making short films that would become the subject of his acclaimed documentary PUT THE CAMERA ON ME, featured on “This American Life." Upon graduating NYU’s Tisch Film School, Darren co-wrote and directed his first feature, the coming-of-age road trip comedy SPARKLER with Freddie Prinze Jr., Park Overall Veronica Cartwright and Grace Zabriskie. He went on to write and direct JAWBREAKER, which premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and earned Rose McGowan an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Villain. His latest feature, the teen comedy GBF premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was the Closing Night film at Outfest and Frameline. Darren has been a producer on ALL ABOUT EVIL (directed by Joshua Grannell and starring Natasha Lyonne) and Cam Archer’s WILD TIGERS I HAVE KNOWN (Sundance) and he is currently developing JAWBREAKER as a TV series with Sony Pictures Television. Darren has also worked in the fashion film and music video arenas, winning a Clio Award for his Fall 2013 ALEXANDER WANG fashion film. His most recent video is "Little Baby Beauty Queen” for DEAP VALLY starring Trixie Mattel. He has written a half hour pilot for HBO and two movies for the Lifetime: SEEDS OF YESTERDAY, the final chapter in the FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC saga and THE SPICE GIRLS STORY. His most recent TV pilot, Lori Alan's DO THE VOICE, won “Best Pilot” at the LA Indie Film Festival. His next feature THE INVISIBLE BOY is slated for production in early 2018.
